About Us

A J Stephenson Removals Essex began their journey back in 1984, and as many companies, started with a small van. The first few years were spent delivering Furniture for Wallace Kings and Choice Homes in Brentwood. Alan Stephenson soon realised that looking after new furniture was a skilled job and basically learned his trade in the early days.

Alan realised that there was a gap in the removals market and decided to expand into the quality removal sector. After securing a business loan and gaining a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), and Operators Licence, the first full sized Removals Lorry was obtained. It was a 12.5 ton Bedford. This was the vehicle of choice for the next 10 years. Old and dated but really reliable!

In 1993 we joined the National Guild of Removers and Storers and as such are founding members; we have consistently received their excellence awards for our high standards.

A J Stephenson moved into the Containerised storage business, a growth area that was relatively new at the time. After much negotiating the first warehouse was up and running, based at Blunts Wall, Billericay.

After 8 years of storing at Blunts Wall, we re-located to a much larger warehouse in Thurrock, where we operated one of the largest containerised storage facilities in Essex. At the end of 2011 we moved back to Billericay and have an even larger facility which is much better suited to cater for our customers needs.

Although our warehouse is based on the outskirts of Billericay, we have kept our office and shop in the town centre. You will find us conveniently located next to Mayflower Taxis at Billericay Railway Station.  You can buy a wide range of packing materials and removal covers there. (These will be provided free of charge if you move with us)

A few years ago we were accepted by Simply Store (The largest Mobile Self Storage company in the UK) to operate their South Essex Franchise, partly due to our excellent storage facilities.
